I have an important function tomorrow. Does a red/silver tie go with a blood red shirt? I’m lacking the fashion ge ne gay guys are supposed to get and my mother is not answering her phone.

That is a dreadful combination. If you MUST wear that shirt, then you'd want a black tie for some contrast. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with a white shirt that won't care what tie you wear.

I’m gonna go with no, but just my opinion. Do you have any other colors for shirt or tie?

I’m terrible to ask because, though I’m not “wear jeans and a worn out t-shirt to a wedding’ levels of not worrying about what other people think, I just sortof wear whatever I think is fine.
Long story short, the above looks fine to me!

There will be a black vest over all.

Only tie I own, and the shirt that I def know it goes with has a stain that I keep forgetting to get dry cleaned.

In most cases, I would recommend having the tie contrast with the shirt rather than blend in, which is sorta what’s going on here.

There will be a black vest over all, so the tie is more of a little pop of brightness.

Not a lighter shade, no. If you have a red tie that’s darker than the shirt that’d be alright, otherwise I’d go with a navy blue that’s dark enough to be nearly black.
Ideally, I’d avoid that shirt altogether. I usually wear white or light blue shirts and a blue tie more often than not.
![]() 10/24/2018 at 20:04 |

You don’t want your tie to be a lighter shade of the shirt’s color.

Are you going to be in Vegas for this function? Perhaps at a place that requires you to have lots of one dollar bills handy? If not, then no - this does not work.
Th e tie itself is nice, but the shirt is kind of funky, and combined with that tie is a hideous combo. Run out to Macy’s or some other large retailer and get a slim fit white button down dress shirt. Try on slim fit shirts - most modern shirts are too billowy and many slim fit shirts are usually just a normal cut (but do try on a few as they make extra slim fit for model thin dudes, and you don’t want that).
And if you are going to be Vegas with dollar bills hanging out of your pockets, go buy some red shoes to match the red shirt and tie.

Nope, doesn’t work.

I would suggest fashion, but I willingly wear socks & Crocs.

Ok. Do you have time to go to the store to get a different shirt or tie? Shirt is gonna look better with a mostly black or silver tie, and the tie is gonna go better with a gray or white shirt.
![]() 10/24/2018 at 20:05 |

No. Light tie with dark shirt does not work unless you have a dark jacket. You need a darker tie, with minimal pattern.
![]() 10/24/2018 at 20:06 |

Jacket or nothing. Unless the vest is tailored to fit your middle (above the waist).

Are you secretly Mario Batali?
![]() 10/24/2018 at 20:12 |

Oh noes, this combination does not look good. The tie has to contrast with both the shirt and the coat or jacket. Either replace the shirt or the tie with
a light-colored one.

When it comes to questions regarding
male suit fashion, you simply need to ask yourself, would David Beckham wear that?
The answer is no, David Beckham would not wear that. Therefore you should not either.

I can't bend it like him so that point is moot.

I would really recommend a black tie, or, possibly, really dark gray. D oesn’t have to be solid - you could do a tonal stripe or something.

What other options you have? If that’s all you have and you don’t want to trek out to a shop, I say roll with it. Half of it is confidence anyway. :)

That doesn’t mean you can’t up your fashion game. Just get a white shirt. If you don’t have one, you can acquire one - even a last minute Walmart special will be better, as long as you wash &
iron it first
.

You’re asking for fashion advice from someone who went to work dressed like this:

I’ll get right on that. Seeing as how there is only one more ferry tonight, it looks like I should be back in time for the function tomorrow morning.

I checked with my wife she said, "I think I like it." That's good enough in my book.

Dude, you totally make that hat work. On me, it would be a fashion disaster.
![]() 10/24/2018 at 22:12 |

I think I’m gonna echo the nos on this one. Any different ties?
![]() 10/24/2018 at 22:22 |

I’m a schlub who only owns one tie. The shirt it matches has a stain.
![]() 10/24/2018 at 22:26 |

It might be time to pick up a few more ties. A nice white shirt gives you the option to go with pretty much any colored tie that you want. They don't have to be expensive ties, but it's good to have options.
![]() 10/24/2018 at 22:30 |

I wear a tie once a year. That’d be a waste of money.
![]() 10/24/2018 at 22:34 |

I don't know how old you are, but you may reach a point where you need a few ties. Weddings, funerals, job interviews, stuff like that. It's good to have a few ties to choose from. I wear ties maybe 4 or 5 days a year, but I like having options. And I don't buy expensive ties.
![]() 10/24/2018 at 23:03 |

I’m going to go with no. I’m not sure what would look good with that shirt but not that tie. I don’t have a lot of fashion sense but I think a lighter shirt with an equal or more saturated/darker tie is better than the other way around.
![]() 10/25/2018 at 01:49 |

The tie and the shirt do not get along.
![]() 10/25/2018 at 01:51 |

But David Beckham also needs to learn how to shave, so his fashion sense is in question.
![]() 10/25/2018 at 08:57 |

He gets a pass on that. Total double standard.
![]() 10/25/2018 at 09:35 |

I’m going to join the crowd and suggest you buy a white shirt. It will serve you well for a long time (weddings, funerals , interviews , graduations, etc).
Lots of white shirts as
Macy’s
for $20. Go in person and have a salesperson fit you.

You have an inalienable right to be wrong.

Only if you have red pants and shoes. And call yourself big red in the 3rd person
